Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitar player and music artist. She was the first and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Shield she has had nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian of Indian descent to perform live and to act as a host at the award ceremony. Anoushka Shakar, who is just a rising star on the Indian Sitar, is Anoushka. She is the student and daughter to Ravi Shankar. She spent her childhood bouncing around from London to New Delhi. Her debut performance was in New Delhi when she was only 13 years old. After that, she moved to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anoushka performed with her father during his world tour, gained an impressive quantity of knowledge. In her teenage years she performed in Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD as well as recorded with George Harrison. She was the youngest woman to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, presented by British Parliament as recognition of her musical talent and artistic ability in performing in the Asian Arts.
